ARNOLD, The Honourable Terence
For services to the judiciary
The Honourable Justice Terence Arnold was appointed a Supreme Court Judge in June 2013, having previously been a Judge of the High Court and Court of Appeal since 2006.
Justice Arnold was Solicitor-General and Chief Executive of the Crown Law Office from 2000 to 2006. He was appointed Queen’s Counsel in 1997. He was a partner at Chapman Tripp Sheffield Young from 1985 to 1994. From 1970 to 1982 he taught at law schools in New Zealand and Canada, developing a particular interest in clinical legal education. From 1986 to 1988 he was member of the Bill of Rights Monitoring Group advising the Minister of Justice on the establishment of the Bill of Rights. He was a founding member of the Law and Economics Association of New Zealand, was its President from 1996 to 1997 and is presently its Patron. He was closely involved in the establishment of the New Zealand Law Society Litigation Skills Programme and the Civil Litigation Skills Programme. He has given seminars and papers for the New Zealand Law Society and other professional bodies. He was a member of the Market Surveillance Committee of the New Zealand Electricity Market from 1996 to 2000 and was appointed to two Standing Committees of the Market Surveillance Panel of the New Zealand Stock Exchange. Justice Arnold is a Trustee of the Douglas Wilson Advocacy Scholarship Trust.

FAGAN, Mr David Alexander, ONZM
For services to shearing
Mr David Fagan has been at the forefront of competitive shearing sports for more than 30 years until his retirement in 2015.
Mr Fagan was the number one ranked open shearer in New Zealand in the 2014/2015 season. Worldwide he has won a total of 642 open championships, been an individual World Champion five times and a World Team Champion seven times. He was the first shearer to shear more than 800 lambs and more than 700 ewes in a nine hour working day under World Record rules. He has represented New Zealand more than 120 times in various New Zealand teams. He is currently an ambassador for Lister Shearing Equipment in the United Kingdom and was recently appointed Chairman of Shearing Sports New Zealand. Mr Fagan has been on the committee of the New Zealand Shearing Championships since 1985 and also competed in the 2004 Fight for Life Charity event, which raised a total of $833,000 for the Meningitis Trust.
