National Cyber Policy Office

The National Cyber Policy Office was established in 2012. The Office leads the development of cyber security policy advice and provides advice to the government on investing in cyber security activities. We also conduct outreach with the private sector on cyber security policy, and leads New Zealand's international engagement on cyber security policy with Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade.

The National Cyber Policy Office formally reports to the Minister of Broadcasting, Communications and Digital Media on cyber security policy matters. We do this in consultation with the Prime Minister, as the Minister for National Security and Intelligence, and other Ministers as appropriate.

Cyber Coordinator

Paul Ash is the Prime Minister’s Special Representative on Cyber and Digital, and Cyber Coordinator. He is responsible for providing advice, developing and coordinating the delivery of an identified priority work programme, and ensuring that the Government’s work on the risk is cohesive and aligned with its overall strategic intentions.
