2022 National Security Survey Report

As part of developing the National Security Long-term Insights Briefing, DPMC commissioned an independent survey to explore what national security means to people living in New Zealand, which threats are of most concern to them, and how we can better share information and engage with them on these topics. Through the survey we heard from 1,148 people living in Aotearoa New Zealand.

The survey makes comparisons with results from a global survey using similar question wording and definitions, and by including a broad range of risk and challenges.

The findings from the survey have informed not only the long-term insights briefing, but also work on the National Security Strategy and National Security Reforms.

DPMC intends to repeat the survey annually so we can develop our understanding of people’s awareness and attitudes towards national security issues over time.
