Regulatory Impact Statement - Christ Church Cathedral Reinstatement Bill

Issue date:
Monday, 4 December 2017
Issue status:
Current

Almost 7 years after the February 2011 earthquake, Christ Church Cathedral remains significantly damaged.

An agreed solution has now been found which enables as much as possible of the Cathedral’s remaining historic and cultural significance to be retained and reinstated. However, the project could still face delays and uncertainty under existing processes for gaining consent and approvals. Government intervention through time-bound legislation is required to provide certainty and an expedited process.

The RIS sets out the proposed approach, including costs, benefits and risks, in comparison to the alternatives that have been considered.
