New COVID-19 business unit for DPMC

Issue date:
Wednesday, 1 July 2020

From July 1 2020, the COVID-19 All-of-Government Response Group has formally become a business unit of the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet.

The response to COVID-19 has required a significant effort from across government and will continue to require this coordinated approach for many months to come.

The business unit will continue to provide assurance of national level oversight and coordination of government agencies’ responses to COVID-19, and include functions around:

Strategy and policy - developing scenarios and advice on New Zealand’s preparedness for these scenarios, providing first opinion advice to Cabinet on the Government’s policy response to COVID-19.

Operational coordination - that involves multiple agencies, in particular the complex and high-risk border quarantine and managed isolation regime.

Data analytics, monitoring, reporting and insights - including coordinated reporting to provide a tested, robust and consistent source of information, and provide agencies with cross government developed modelling and operational trends.

Public communications - including the public information and messaging and maintaining the COVID-19 website.
