A late Cabinet paper is any paper lodged after 10.00am the Thursday before the meeting.

If a Minister needs to submit a paper to Cabinet or a Cabinet committee after the Thursday 10:00am deadline, then the Minister’s office must submit an email to the Cabinet Office seeking approval to make a late submission.

Papers may only be lodged after the Thursday 10:00am deadline if there is a need for urgent consideration and approval has been given by the Chair of Cabinet or Chair of the Cabinet committee, as appropriate. If papers are not urgent, then they should be lodged as normal for the next relevant meeting.

Approval to send a late paper request must be obtained from the responsible Minister before the request is made. The Chair of Cabinet and the Cabinet committee, if applicable, determines whether late paper requests are accepted or declined.

To request late lodgement of a Cabinet paper, copy the form below into an email and send it to cabpapers@dpmc.govt.nz. Please complete all relevant sections of the form.

The Cabinet Office will advise the Minister’s office of the Chair’s decision.
